Many people may find that their Express Entry profile expires before they receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency (PR) in Canada. Continue reading to find out what occurs in these situations and what candidates should do if their profile is about to expire. What to do if your Express Entry Profile expires?
The federal Express Entry candidate pool has more than 200,000 profiles as of April 2024.
Will my information be saved when my Express Entry profile expires?
No is the succinct response to this query. The Express Entry profile’s data is not retained by the system when it expires.
The validity of Express Entry applicant profiles is one year, and it is indicated on the individual’s profile page. The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) report that while it had originally intended to save candidate data, it has since discovered that this is not currently possible. Currently, a candidate’s information is lost when their profile expires within the Express Entry pool, though this could change in the future.
Therefore, if newcomers discover that their profile is about to expire, IRCC suggests that they register a new profile if they want to continue using the pool. It is also recommended that candidates retain their profile information for ease of re-entry, possibly as extra copies or screenshots.
How can I create a new profile within the Express Entry candidate pool?
The procedure of making a new profile in the Express Entry system is the same as making a new profile in the pool; yet, there are some guidelines that need to be followed.
Interestingly, an applicant cannot be a part of more than one Express Entry pool profile. Therefore, a candidate must first remove their previous candidate profile before creating a new one if they are in a situation where their current one is about to expire and they would like to stay in the pool.
People will receive a new Express Entry profile number and a new job seeker validation code for the Job Bank when submitting a new profile. Candidates in the pool can apply for positions on Canada’s central Job Bank while verifying their inclusion in the Express Entry system by using a code called a “job seeker validation code,” which is assigned to Express Entry profiles.
How can I increase my eligibility while I am in the Express Entry pool?
Increasing one’s chances of being issued an ITA by the IRCC is a crucial factor for candidates applying for Express Entry.
The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to evaluate each applicant in the Express Entry pool. Candidates receive scores from the CRS based on a variety of characteristics, including their education, work experience, and human capital. Raising a person’s score under the system can be an effective strategy to raise their eligibility for an ITA because each draw in the system is linked to a cut-off CRS score.
To this end, candidates within the pool who want to increase their CRS score can (among other steps):
- Increase official language ability in English or French;
- Increase level of education by taking an additional credential, or assessing an additional foreign credential;
- Secure a job offer;
- Receive a provincial nomination;
- Increase eligible work experience; and
- Increase eligibility to claim spousal points
Candidates may be eligible (or increase their eligibility) for category-based choices under the Express Entry system in addition to raising their CRS scores. Candidates are invited to these draws mostly based on their proficiency in the official language or their work history in high-demand roles.
