In a groundbreaking development for 2024, the Northwest Territories Achieves (NWT) its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) cap for the first time. The Northwest Territory government announced a significant milestone on July 22, surpassing its target of 300 nominations for the Northwest Territory Nominee Program (NTNP), set by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

This past week, four Canadian provinces invited immigration candidates through their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). These provinces selected candidates based on their education, work experience, professional skills, etc.
The latest IRCC invites are part of a strategic series of targeted draws introduced with the category-based selection system in May 2023. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently invited 1,499 candidates to apply for permanent residency in the latest Express Entry draw.
In the most current Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) round, candidates were invited by Ontario, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, and Manitoba. PNP invites from provinces.
Because the provincial and federal governments share responsibility for immigration, the PNP was created. It enables provincial governments to exercise more control over the choice of economic immigrants who choose to settle in a province that is making the nomination.
The first PNP in Canada was the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). In 1998, it was turned into a permanent immigration scheme.
