Eligibility Requirements

  1. Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident.
  2. Be 18 years of age or older.
  3. Meet the income requirements to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to support their family member(s) financially.
  4. Provide written and signed undertaking to financially support their family member(s) for a period of three to 20 years, depending on their age and relationship.

Application Process

The application process for the Parents and Grandparents Program involves two steps:

  1. Expression of Interest (EOI): The sponsor must first submit an EOI form to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to indicate their interest in sponsoring their parent(s) or grandparent(s). The EOI form is usually available for a limited time each year.
  2. Invitation to Apply (ITA): If the sponsor’s EOI is accepted, they will receive an ITA to apply for the PGP. The ITA will include instructions on how to submit the application, including the necessary documents and fees.
